Shine As A Linguist
Newtown linguists let their light shine brightly.
Modern Foreign Languages is the development of children’s linguistic competence. It should be seen as a life-long skill. Learning a language opens up avenues of communication and exploration as well as promoting, encouraging and instilling a broader cultural understanding. They are encouraged to engage with the MFL curriculum through memorable experiences such as games, songs, stories and role play. Using ‘real life’ situations, such as French cafés will enable the children to practice their language learning. We want children to leave our school as enthusiastic, independent language learners.
Through our Modern Foreign Languages curriculum, we aim to enable the children to become:
Enthusiastic, curious and independent thinkers through developing and feeding their curiosity about modern foreign languages and other cultures that make up our world. The use of multi-lingual dictionaries provides children with opportunities to explore new words and grammar independently.
Motivated, reflective and resilient learners through developing their ability to read, write and speak French. They will have opportunities to broaden their cultural understanding of different countries and reflect on similarities and differences between our own culture/language and others.
Tolerant and responsible citizens through developing their appreciation of how others live and by learning in more depth about other cultures and languages other than our own.
