Safeguarding
At Newtown Church of England Primary School, ensuring the safety and welfare of every child is of paramount importance to us. We strongly believe that every child has the right to feel safe and supported and we know that in order for this to happen every member of our community has a responsibilty to safeguard all our children. All staff and governors receive regular Child Protection Awareness training from the LA and we have three trained Designated Safeguarding Leads: Mr Ben Crompton, Mrs Clare Liley and Mrs Julie Hordern. Rev Adam Clayton is our named governor for Safeguarding and Child Protection and Mrs Anna Lingard is our named designated lead for E-Safety.
If you ever have any concerns about a child's safety or well being please do talk to one of our Designated Leads in confidence. All staff understand the need for confidentiality and we also ensure all new members of staff are aware of our all our policies including our Whistle Blowing policy.
We systematically review and update our policies and implement new guidance from SSCB (Shropshire's Safeguarding Children Board) and the DfE. (See our Policies page).
The Executive Headteacher and the Chair of Governors have attended Safer Recruitment training and by following our Safer Recruitment Policy, we feel secure that we recruit new staff as safely as possible. All staff, volunteers, peripatetic music teachers and sports coaches are subject to an enhanced DBS check and references are always obtained prior to anyone commencing employment in our school.
Concerned about a child?
If you suspect that a child or vulnerable adult is experiencing any of the above or is at risk of being harmed, it's vital that you report it.
Your initial reaction may be to dismiss it and just hope it’s not true. But it’s vital that you report your concerns if you feel a child may be suffering. If you don’t report your concerns, it could mean that the neglect will continue.
Whether you are the child’s parent, relative, family friend, neighbour or a professional, don’t let anything stop you from protecting a child.
