Accelerated Reader
Children at Newtown Church of England Primary School who have completed our phonics reading scheme will progress on to reading books that have been levelled and assessed by a computer program known as Accelerated Reader.
This is a program that helps teachers manage and monitor children's independent reading practise. Children take a short comprehension test, known as a 'Star Test' which will determine an appropriate level for them. They then choose a book at their level to read and, when finished will take a short quiz about the book on a computer or iPad. Passing the quiz is an indication that your child understood what they have read. Accelerated Reader gives children and teachers feedback based on the quiz results. Teachers can then use this to help your child set goals and to direct ongoing practise.
