Home Learning

EYFS

Early reading and phonics is fundamentally important and as such the focus for home learning in EYFS is predominantly on this element of early education. Reading will be set weekly with books matched to support each individual child and the sounds needed to be practiced.

Phonics

Please see the attached Parent Guide to Phonics. This has been sent out in paper form and was shared during the Phonics for Parents Worskhop earlier this term.

First, parents who engage their children in books prepare them to become committed and enthusiastic readers: they can transform their attitudes to reading.14 Their children learn to focus and share the enjoyment of the story; they learn how stories start and finish, and how a plot unravels and is resolved; they learn that books can transport them elsewhere.

Please refer to our calculation policy to support your child with their maths tasks and challenges. You will find this in the files section.

Marking

How will pupils and parents know what has been achieved?

At Newhampton Church of England Schools Federation our pupils and parents expect and receive appropriate feedback on homework. Ways of providing these include:

  • monitoring the Reading Record
  • marking – either by school staff or by pupils within school
  • verbal feedback from classroom teachers
